In the year 1964, a gentleman by the name of Don White started the first Cub Scout Pack in Rutland. Don White was the embodiment of scouting and showed his scouting colors in everything he did. During his tenure with the pack, he also worked as a local school bus driver and knew many of the kids names by heart. Don White continued to work with the pack throughout most of his adult life. When he was no longer able to serve as actively in the pack, the pack went one step further in keeping him included and caroled during Christmas time to him and his neighbors at the Odd Fellows home in Worcester. Every year, we also continue to honor him by awarding the Don White award to a scout who best exemplifies the scout oath and law in their everyday life as well as in scouts. He completed his Wood Badge Training in 1974 and also served as a Unit Commissioner for the Quinsigamond District as well as Assistant District Commissioner for the Quinisigamond District. He truly lived and breathed scouting everyday of his life.

Unfortunately, on 1/21/19, Don White passed away. He will be missed by many. He has helped shape the lives and characters of many past and present scouts. Rutland Pack 141 will be making a donation in his name to Heart of New England Council Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Scouting Pack 141 – Rutland, 1980 Lunenburg Rd., Lancaster, MA 01523. Calling hours are Thursday, 1/24, from 6p-8p at Miles Funeral Home on Main Street in Holden. Any who wish to attend may. Please attend in full scout uniform if you are able.

May the Great Cubmaster of all true Scouts be with us until we meet again.
